Our Projects

Explore selected projects demonstrating QM’s experience delivering complex environmental, demolition and emergency-response solutions across Canada.

Infrastructure & Transportation

Integrated solutions for complex transportation and infrastructure projects, from planning and construction support through renewal and decommissioning.

Hot Oil Spill

QM responded to a tanker rollover near Abbotsford, BC, where approximately 22,000 litres of hot oil were estimated to have spilled into a ravine and nearby creek following the crash. QM’s Emergency Response team mobilized within two hours, using thermal imaging to assess the remaining oil and quickly developing and implementing a plan to contain the spill and safely manage the contaminated materials.

Dimethyl Sulphate

QM responded to a reported strong odour coming from the site, believed to be associated with containers potentially containing dimethyl sulfide. Given the presence of other hazardous materials on the vessel, our team implemented 24-hour atmospheric monitoring with readings conducted every 20 minutes to continuously assess conditions and support site safety, and simultaneously ensuring the hazardous material was contained.

144 Bay Yonge Viaduct

QM demolished a century-old concrete bridge beside an active rail corridor in downtown Toronto. The work was completed over six weekend road closures, with engineered demolition plans, vibration monitoring and protective measures that allowed Yonge Street to reopen each Monday morning.

Energy

Multidisciplinary solutions supporting the safe development, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of energy infrastructure.

Power Generating Station Decommissioning

QM, in joint venture with the Six Nations of the Grand River, carried out environmental decommissioning at a former coal-fired generating station. The work included removing legacy infrastructure, capping fly ash and bottom ash, and restoring the site with native vegetation to reduce long-term environmental risks.

Power Generating Station Decommissioning

QM supported the environmental decommissioning of a former coal-fired generating site. The work included removing contaminated sediment and sludge, decommissioning settling ponds and sewage lagoons, improving stormwater drainage, and restoring approximately 450,000 m² of land with topsoil.

Suncor Parkview Demolition

QM demolished the former Petro-Canada service station at Suncor’s Parkview site, removed underground infrastructure and excavated approximately 9,450 tonnes of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil. The work was completed beside a busy road, with traffic controls and shoring used to protect adjacent municipal infrastructure.

Government & Defence

Delivering specialized environmental, demolition and emergency-response solutions that help government and defence clients manage complex sites, critical infrastructure and sensitive operations.

G Jetty & Jetty 11 Remediation

QM, in joint venture with Pacific Pile & Marine, carried out harbour remediation at CFB Esquimalt. The work included removing marine structures, dredging approximately 8,500 m³ of contaminated sediment, and transporting the material for processing and disposal while monitoring for unexploded ordnance and historical artifacts.

CFB Comox FFTA

QM remediated PFAS-impacted soil at CFB Comox, excavating more than 46,000 tonnes for treatment or stabilization. The team then designed and built a new fire training area with systems to collect and manage runoff from future training exercises.

Rifle Range Decommissioning

The CIPS/QM joint venture remediated lead-contaminated soil at two former Department of National Defence firing ranges in Petawawa. The team excavated and stabilized the soil, transported approximately 6,000 tonnes of treated material to a licensed facility, and restored both ranges with topsoil and seeding.

Commercial Redevelopment

Integrated environmental, demolition and site-preparation solutions that help transform complex or contaminated properties into redevelopment-ready sites.

152 Shanley Street Brownfield Remediation

QM remediated the former Electrohome property to prepare the long-vacant site for residential redevelopment. The team removed approximately 40,000 tonnes of impacted soil and treated contaminated groundwater while managing excavation beside neighbouring properties. The project received a 2023 Brownie Award for brownfield redevelopment.

Ford St. Thomas Assembly Plant Redevelopment

QM led demolition, hazardous materials abatement and remediation at the former Ford St. Thomas Assembly Plant. The multi-phase project included removing more than 185,800 m² of industrial buildings, foundations and underground infrastructure, along with soil and groundwater remediation to prepare the site for future use.

99 Duncan Mills Road Renovation

QM provided selective demolition and asbestos abatement for the renovation of a four-storey commercial building. As additional asbestos-containing materials were uncovered, the team returned to complete further abatement and coordinated its work with the general contractor and other trades.

Institutional & Healthcare

Specialized environmental, industrial and emergency-response solutions supporting oil and gas assets throughout their lifecycle.

University of Victoria Student Housing & Dining

QM completed hazardous materials abatement and demolished two residences and a dining hall to make way for new student housing and dining facilities. The work included removing asbestos-containing materials across three buildings and recycling more than 90% of the remaining materials after interior strip-out.

Whitehorse Airport Remediation

QM excavated 9,810 m³ of soil within the airport’s secure, active operations area, including 3,350 m³ of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil sent for treatment. The team coordinated with airport authorities and completed the work within a limited window before winter.

Stony Plain Central School Demolition

QM removed hazardous materials and demolished the former school while a new school was being built nearby. The team coordinated truck movements around school bus times, salvaged a portable addition for future use, and restored the site with topsoil and 12,000 m² of sod.

Proven Experience in Complex Environments

From remote sites to active facilities, QM brings the expertise and field capabilities needed to deliver complex projects safely and efficiently.
